Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Armory
Choose from one of the categories below to see a detailed writeup about each weapon expected to be in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It might not be perfect, but it is as complete as we could get it based on screens, videos, interviews, etc.
This weapons page is brought to you by Manberries from The Firing Box.
Assault Rifles AKM (AK-47) - The AKM and AK-47 are the worlds most famous and used assault rifles; built by the Kalashnikov weapons facility. The reliability, ease of use, and low cost are what makes the AKM the favorite choice of Professionals, terrorists, and even children. The AKM fires the 7.62x39mm, a powerful cartridge known for its penetration power and recoil. These cartridges are fed via a thirty round magazine. In game it is seen in use by the Opfor (opposing forces). **SIDE NOTE The reason I call it an AKM instead of an AK-47 is because, in the late 50s Russia stopped production of the AK-47 and replaced it with the AKM. Most AK-47s are now out of circulation and the AKM is now the weapon of choice for the majority of the world. G3A5 - The G3A5 is the latest version of the G3 series officially made by H&K. The G3 is a world famous German assault rifle. Much like the AK, it is cheap, easy to use, and reliable. In another likeness of the AK it is a favorite of many armies and guerilla forces. The G3 has many different names due to the many number of countries that produce it, ranging from Denmark to Iran. At one time this weapon was the man assault rifle for over five European countries. Until the invention of the AK-103 this weapon actually held the title of best 7.62mm assault rifle in the world. The G3A5 differs from the original version with redesigned plastic composites and an adjustable stock. The G3 supports both semi and auto fire modes, and some versions have three round burst. All versions of the G3 use the 7.62x51mm NATO cartridge. This round is extremely powerful; it's fast and it's heavy. This makes a deadly combination that gives this round enough penetration to defeat many APCs (Armored Personnel Carrier) and IFVs (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) from the cold war era. I have only seen evidence of the G3A5 in game in a single screenshot, being held by an Opfor (opposing forces). G36C - The G36C is another great weapon by the H&K company, and the official rifle of the German army. Accuracy, weight, length, fire rate, reliability, and killing power the G36 has it all. Widely noted as the worlds second best assault rifle, and if you add comfort ability into the mix the number one, the G36 was a revolution in weapons design. Along with service in the German army, it can also be found within many special forces groups, police forces, and high funded terrorist groups. The original G36 sported a built in mini scope and red dot sight within its carrying handle. Later versions made the carrying handle removable so specific sights could be attached, including iron sights. The G36C differs from the G36B in only its length, and accuracy. The G36C is only 500mm long! The shortened barrel has caused a reduction in accuracy, but the weapon is still amazing effective at medium ranges and even lower end long ranges. As most modern weapons, it is fully customizable with a number of different parts. All versions of the G36 fires the 5.56x45mm NATO round (see M16A4 (M16A2)). It operates on a thirty round magazine, but can also accept a fifty and 100 round drum magazine. This weapon was caught on footage in a trailer. **SIDE NOTE. Thank you xIGuNDoCIx for finding this weapon and informing me of the needed update. M16A4 (M16A2) - the M16A4 is the latest design in the M16 series, created by the ArmaLite company. Visually it is very similar to the M16A2 with the exception of the four sided rail system. These rails are underneath the replaceable front grip, as well as a rail where the carrying handle is attached. These rails can be outfitted with a number of different tools including flashlights, scopes, and infrared laser pointers. Other differences include a higher firing rate, 800 rounds per minute, and a more reliable gas operation system. This is the weapon of choice for the US Marine Corps. All variants of the M16 use the popular and deadly 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge, in a thirty round capacity magazine. This cartridge is high velocity, meaning high accuracy and forceful impacts. The round goes so fast that as it enters the human body it tears its self apart, spreading shrapnel throughout the human body. In game this is seen used by the Marines. **SIDE NOTE The official Modern Warfare sight indicates that it is an M16A4 and is the proper choice since it is the rifle now used, but the 3d model is that of an M16A2. This can also be noted in screen shots, but some in game footage does seem to be a proper modeled M16A4 M4/M4A1 SOPMOD - The M4 is a carbine version of the M16 created by the Colt company. The major differences are greatly reduced length, an adjustable stock, compatibility with MWS (Modular Weapon System), and the new gas operation system seen in the M16A4 that increases reliability. This weapon comes in two variants, the M4 and the M4A1. The major difference between the two is that the M4 has safe, single fire, and three round burst modes; while the M4A1 has safe, single fire, and full auto modes. Generally, the M4 is given to Army regulars, while the M4A1 is given to special forces, officers, and vehicle crew members. The SOPMOD design allows both versions of the M4 to be fully modified with over fifteen parts. The M4 uses the 5.56x45mm NATO (see M16A4 (M16A2)), in a thirty round capacity magazine. In game it is seen in many of the Bluefor's hands (Blue forces i.e. friendlies). Light Machine Guns M249 S.A.W. - The M249 was originally developed by the FN HERSTAL company, and then later renamed and redesigned for the US military; it was also renamed the MG4 when it went into service with the German military. The M249 was a revolutionary design in the idea of machine guns. Since WWI the machine gun has been a heavy and unwieldy weapon, even throughout the cold war such weapons required a place to rest the weapon upon to achieve accuracy. For the first time a true belt fed machine gun could be held and fired in all the same positions a rifle could and achieve accuracy, that weapon's name was the M249. Like most of the weapons in the US military, the M249 can be modified with a scope, adjustable stock, and a front pistol grip. The M249 fires a 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge (see M16A4 (M16A2)) at a rate of 750 rounds per minute; and even 1,000 rounds per minute if fed from an M16 magazine. The M249 is commonly fed from a 200 round belt of ammunition, contained in an attachable box. Alternatively, the weapon can be loaded with the standard M16 Stanag magazine (I have not seen this feature implemented into the game). This weapon finds itself in the hands of three men in each full Marine squad, in real life; and in game is carried by at least one of your squad mates. M60E4 - The M60 was originally designed back in the 50's and saw service in Vietnam. The weapon was changed and upgraded as time went on, which has kept and is keeping the weapon in service even today. The first changes were to repair problems noted from the original weapon; one such problem was the weapon, on occasion, would continue to fire after the trigger was released. Later versions of the M60 redesigned its internal workings to increase weapon reliability, decrease weight, increase accuracy, and improve the air cooling of the weapon. The latest variant of the M60 is the M60E4. The M60E4's biggest difference from its predecessors is its cooling; this weapon can fire 800+ rounds without overheating! This weapon is still deployed by the SEALs today. It fires the 7.62x51mm NATO round (see G3A5). It fires these rounds at 500-650 rounds per minute, a somewhat low fire rate but is a lethal rate yet conserves ammunition. I have only seen this weapon in a multiplayer video. RPD - The RPD began development in the final years of WWII, and was implemented into service in the 50's. It served in the Soviet army for nearly ten years until it was replaced by the RPK in the 60's. Yet, the RPD still finds use in the agendas of many terrorist and guerilla nations world wide. The newest development of the RPD is the RPDM, though newest actually means 50 years old. The differences are just a few plastic parts where metal and wood once resided, and a renewed production for sale on the world's weapons market. The RPD is comfortable to handle, is quite light, has low recoil, and is even accurate when fired from the hip, as long as you have a sling for it. Firing a 7.62x54mmR round, from a 100 round drum magazine, has given the RPD a deadly reputation. You can find this weapon on a single screenshot. Sub-Machine Guns Mini-Uzi - The Uzi is an Israeli designed Sub-Machine Gun. The Uzi shares the same favoritism of the criminal elements of the world as the AK does. Originally, the Uzi was designed for use by the Israeli police and military operations within Israeli cities and urban situations. The Mini-Uzi is more than just shorter than the original, it has a much higher fire rate (600 Uzi 950 Mini-Uzi), greater accuracy at medium ranges, improved sights, and a better stock; although, it is harder to keep on target at close ranges. This weapon has semi and full auto modes. All Uzi versions use the 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge. As all pistol rounds go the 9mm Para does lack knock down power, range, and has a low kill rate; yet has extremely low recoil allowing for full auto usage in close ranges. The Uzi holds these rounds within a fifteen, twenty five, or thirty two cartridge magazine. I have only seen this gun in game once; in the hands of an Opfor (opposing forces) as he was running with it in a trailer but did not fire it. MP5A6 - The MP5 is another of the world's famous weapons. From its invention date, by H&K, to modern times, the MP5 has been the choice of the world's best and the world's worst. The MP5 sports great accuracy, mobility, modability, reliability, has low recoil, and to top it all its light too. Many versions of this weapon has been released but most updates are cosmetic and not worth mentioning. The only truly important change made to the original version is a re-chambering for a 10mm round for the MP5/10 & 40 (the 40 is chambered for the American .40 in. round which is approximately the same as 10mm but not the same). All other variants including the MP5A6 use the 9x19mm Para cartridge (See Mini-Uzi).The MP5 supports normal magazines for 32 rounds, high capacity magazines for 40, drum magazines for 50, and a double drum magazine configuration for 100 rounds (only the normal capacity magazine has been seen in game). I have spotted this weapon in the hands of the SAS many times throughout screen shots and videos. MP5A6SD - (See MP5A6). This is a special silenced variant of the MP5, designed for night ops and other times when people don't want to be heard. The silencer on this weapon is built in and cannot be removed; but do not fret because, when used with SD ammo (Sub-sonic rounds), the sound of the bolt moving back and forth is louder than the shot itself (Ammunition types are not represented in game). The MP5A6SD is the quietest weapon, that uses conventional propulsion methods, in the world. It uses the SD 9x19mm Para ammo or the standard 9x19mm Para. This weapon in all other ways, except for weight and length, is the exact same as the MP5A6 (See MP5A6). You can find this weapon in the hands of the SAS in multiple screens and videos. Scorpion SA Vz 61 - The Scorpion is an iconic weapon of Eastern Europe. Built in Czechoslovakia, before the split, this weapon has seen service from Germany to Russia. Many versions have been created throughout the decades, but the 61 is by far the most used. Surprisingly this less than astatically pleasing weapon has a fire rate of 850+, quite an insane amount for the size of the weapon. Other variants use a pallet of ammunitions, including 9x19mm, 9x18mm Markarov, and a 9x17mm. The 61 version uses a 7.65x17mm cartridge, this is the version depicted in Call of Duty 4. The Vz 61 has magazines with a capacity of either ten rounds or twenty. The round was known the have limited effectiveness, never anything especially bad or good. I have yet to spot this weapon in game yet. Shotguns Winchester Model 1200 (W1200) - The W1200 is a modable tactical shotgun. This weapon comes in many forms, and with many different parts. You might see one with a full stock, a folding skeleton stock, a pistol grip, and even a reflex sight mounted on it. This weapon has never gained much fame world wide; the competition from Beneli is quite stiff. It's a simple twelve gauge that can hold six rounds or seven if you chamber one and load another shell into the magazine (This is called combat loading, I do not believe this can be done in game). I have seen this weapon on the back of a soldier and on the ground in two videos. Sniper Rifles M21 - The M21 sniper rifle is a modified M14. Not many changes were made, things like getting rid of the full auto, increasing accuracy, putting a bipod on the front of the rifle, and adding a better scope mount. The M21 was widely used in Vietnam, but after the war, it was left to gather dust. Only recently has the M21 and M14 returned to service. You can find such weapons in the hands of special forces and a few select snipers. Both the M21 and M14 use the 7.62x51mm NATO round; known for its extreme power and deadliness. This weapon supports a ten or twenty round magazine. This weapon can be seen in the sniper mission video. M40A3 - The M40A3 is newest small caliber sniper rifle for the Marines. It is a bolt-action, magazine fed, sniper rifle with a 10x scope. It is extremely accurate and one of the best sniper rifles in the world, ranking right with the AWM and M24. The original M40 and those versions all the way up to M40A2 required a round by round reloading procedure. The M40A3 now has a detachable magazine that holds five rounds of 7.62x51mm NATO death to whoever is unfortunate enough to be at the business end of the barrel. This weapon has not made an appearance in the game yet. SVD - The SVD is the AKM of the sniper world; everyone who needs one has one. In truth half of the people who are holding one couldn't fire an air soft gun properly, let alone snipe. Its popularity is not that surprising; after all it is a truly great weapon. It's accurate at medium ranges (300-600 meters), decent knock down power, a fast fire rate, and extreme reliability. A 7.62x54mmR bullet flies out of this rifle from a ten round magazine. I personally haven't seen this gun in game yet. Pistols Desert Eagle - A famous pistol among most Americans. The Desert Eagle was developed in a joint works by the Saco Defense Corporation and the Colt Company. It comes in three popular variants (other calibers do exist though), a .357 in. magnum, a .44 in. magnum, and, most famously, a .50 in. pistol round. It is unclear which variant is shown in game, but with the egotistical nature of mid-eastern warlords it's most likely the .50 in. version. The Desert Eagle is a heavy and unwieldy weapon. It has never been the choice of anyone but hard headed body guards, and fool hardy warlords. While the .357 in. and .44 in. caliber versions have decent performance, the .50 in. caliber is an atrocious weapon. The weight of a .50 in. caliber bullet being propelled by a small pistol cartridge gives the weapon an extremely short range and penetration power; yet has the recoil of a shotgun being held in one hand. Yes, it does have knock down power, but that isn't worth all its other short comings. The Desert Eagle supports nine, eight, or seven round magazines depending on the caliber the weapon is chambered for. This gun has only been seen the hands of the mid-east warlord in trailers and may not be usable by the player. M1911 - Possibly the world's most famous pistol, the M1911 has been around since 1911. Developed by Colt, this weapon saw action in every conflict in the modern world; as well as throughout the decades in police hands. Rugged, reliable, and powerful are a just few words to describe this weapon of lore. The M1911 is the longest serving weapon in modern times, and is still used today with little to no modifications. The .45ACP cartridge erupts from this weapon at a relatively low speed for modern pistols; that is actually exactly what causes it to have so much knock down power. A large bullet going slower will apply more continuous force to a target, than a smaller faster bullet since the smaller bullet looses its energy faster without the inertia of a larger bullet. This weapon does have its short comings, its short range and decreased accuracy has seen it replaced by 9mm pistols. Still, this weapon can be found in the hands of special forces and some police world wide. Another reason the 9mm has replaced this weapon is its small magazine size, only seven rounds to be exact. I have not seen this weapon in game yet. M92F - The AK of the pistol world; and another widely recognized weapon. This weapon is by far the most used pistol world wide. It is the official pistol of NATO, and of most police in the US and Western Europe; though it is being replaced by the Glock. It is one of the last full metal pistols still in wide service through out the world. Created in the 80s by the Beretta factory, the weapon has seen its fair share of service. The M9 defeated the M1911 in a competition to gain its right as the US military's official pistol. Some problems were noted in the original design; therefore the M92F was designed to fix those few problems. All M9s use the 9x19mm NATO round, a small, fast, accurate round. Generally, this weapon fires from a fifteen round magazine; unless it is a civilian version then it's from a ten or less. USP (.45 Caliber) - Manufactured by the Heckler & Koch corporation, the USP is a widely used pistol, particularly by the special forces. This weapon comes in many calibers ranging from 9mm to .45ACP in. and everywhere in-between. The official site for Call of Duty 4 states that it is the .45 in. version while most in the world are .40 in. The USP has amazing performance in all calibers. It covers all ends, accuracy, weight, power (depending on caliber), magazine size, and modification. Silencers, tactical lights, and aiming lasers can all be attached to this weapon. The .45ACP in. version particularly has increased power but decreased range and accuracy. The .45ACP in. variant fires from a twelve round magazine. This weapon can be seen in the sniper mission video. Grenades and Explosives M67 Fragmentation Grenade - the M67 grenade replaced the M61 ?egg? grenade and the Mk 2 ?pineapple? grenade in official US military use. The grenade can be thrown thirty to forty meters, and has a three second fuse; some do have a five second fuse though. The grenade has a death range of five meters but, for the unlucky, can kill from 200+ meters due to its fragmentation. The average soldier carries two of these into battle. I don't remember seeing this weapon used as of yet. M82 Screening Grenade - The M82 is the US military's current smoke grenade. It comes in many colors, including red, blue, green, yellow, and traditional white. Colored versions are meant for signaling while the thicker white is used for concealment. This specific grenade uses terephtalic acid to produce its smoke making it harmless to breathe in low amounts; some use hexachloroethane/zinc which produces hydrochloric acid making it harmful. This specific smoke grenade burns and produces smoke at a consistent rate, as opposed to some that instantly burst with smoke. Two of these are commonly carried by officers. I have yet to see this used in game. **SIDE NOTE. The exact type of grenade used in game cannot be determined at this time and may never be. M84 Stun Grenade (Flash and Stun) - The M84 is the most widely used type of flash & bang grenade, used by both the military and police. This weapon is less lethal and unless very specific circumstances come together it will not kill or injure a person. This is employed when you do not wish to hurt your target or there are hostages next to the Opfor (opposing forces). This weapon is only carried when the users plan to encounter situations that it may be useful. **SIDE NOTE. The official call of duty 4 site states that both a stun and flash grenade exist in game, yet in real life both of these weapons are the same thing. Secondly, the exact model of the grenade cannot be confirmed. C-4 - A very powerful plastic explosive, 1.34 times greater than TNT. This explosive is used for demolition in the field, but not for precise demolitions. Due the power of C-4 making exact and controlled explosives is impossible, so traditional dynamite and TNT are generally used for those. This explosive is in a puddy like form that allows it to be molded and stuck to just about anything. C-4 is extremely stable as well; it can be shot, burned, and smashed without detonation. The only way to detonate C-4 is with a significant electrical charge generally produced by detonators, or a blasting cap. C-4 generally is not carried around, but only brought along for combat demolitions. This can be seen in a multiplayer video. RPG-7v - The RPG is the most famous and most used anti-tank weapon in the world. You can't turn on the TV without seeing someone with one. Originally designed to defeat the 60's era western armor, the RPG-7 has now turned into a support weapon. Many guerilla and terrorist factions now use this weapon against infantry. After such popularity for this use the USSR began development of high explosive warheads and anti-infantry rounds for the weapon. The RPG is commonly known as the Rocker Propelled Grenade, which is actually wrong. RPG stands for Reaktivniy (Rocket) Protivotankovye (Anti-Tank) Granatamyot (Grenade Launcher). All Russian handheld anti-tank weapons carry the name RPG. The RPG-7v was developed in the late 60's and today is the most popular version. It's cheap, reliable, and easy to use. This weapon is a favorite of poor countries for their choice of anti-tank weapons. The RPG-7v is totally worthless against any modern tanks from a T-80 on. This weapon can be loaded with a HEAT anti-tank round a double HEAT anti-tank round to defeat reactive armor, and thermobaric round for anti-personnel, and a fragmentation for anti-personnel. FGM 148 Javelin - The worlds most advanced infantry held anti-tank weapon, is the Javelin. There are three things that make this weapon revolutionary in the world of anti-tank weapons. First, it has an advanced fire and forget targeting system. This means once it is fired the user no longer has to aim it or even consider the missile. The targeting system can hit a tank from 75 to 2500 meters, which is much farther than even the most advanced tanks can engaged infantry! The system can even target a helicopter! Secondly, is the Javelin's flight profile. The Javelin has two settings, direct fire, and top down fire. Direct fire is used for helicopters or buildings and has a cruise height of fifty meters, aims directly at its target, and hits it straight. The top down profile causes it to cruise at 150 meters and slam into the weaker top armor of tanks. The third and final part of the equation to the Javelins destructive force is its missile. The Javelin missile has two warheads, one to defeat any reactive armor on the tank, and the second to penetrate its bare armor. All of these things combined give the Javelin enough power to destroy any tank in the world. Generally, the AT soldier carries the main target system and one tube that contains the missile, while a partner carriers an extra missile filled tube for him and helps give specific protection to the AT soldier. The Javelin has one main targeting piece and a very large tube that contains the missile which can be detached for reloading purposes. This can be seen in one game play video firing in a very unrealistic manner. Equipment ACOG Scope - The ACOG scope is a mini-scope that magnifies 4x. It is used by the Marines on there M16A4 to increase the accuracy and range of the average soldier. An ACOG can also be found on some M4s. The ACOG is a tough and reliable scope that is easily mounted on the rail system found in M16A4s and M4s. I believe some form of this scope is used on the M21 in the sniper mission video, due to the low zoom of that scope in the video. Aimpoint Red Dot Sight - The Aimpoint Red Dot Scope is used by the US Army on its M4's. It looks much like the ACOG with a slight shape difference. Looking down the scope you see a small illuminated red dot that may be offset from the center, and does not have increased zoom. The red dot scope is designed to always have the red dot where the barrel is pointing, eliminating the problem with iron sights where the rear sight is offset from the front. This can be seen mounted on some weapons in screen shots but is not the sight seen in videos. **SIDE NOTE. The official Call of Duty 4 site shows a different type of red dot scope for its weapons but I have only seen the Aimpoint type, this does not include the Eotech that is seen in videos. Eotech Holographic Sight - The Eotech scope is yet to be mounted on any weapons outside of special forces in real life, but is mounted on many weapons in Call of Duty 4. It is a well designed scope that has all the advantages of the red dot scope, but has a more complex design and a different illuminated sight. The sight looks much more like a cross hair than a simple dot. This is the sight seen in the footage of the marines attacking at night. Forward Pistol Grip - This is nothing more than a grip that can be added to the front of many weapons, to give it an easier holding area and to increase the amount of control you have over the weapons recoil. It simply looks like the pistol grip that comes down from the general barrel area of the weapon. This grip can be added to M4's, M16A4's, and M60E4's in game, and many more weapons in real life. This can be seen implemented on weapons in many screen shots. GP-25 - The GP-25 was invented in the 70's by the USSR to serve as a squad grenade launcher. This weapon was designed to be attached underneath all both the AKM and AK-74. It has seen service in many armies world wide, from China to Iraq. It is another rugged and easy to use weapon to add to the AK's potency. It fires a 40mm grenade from a short rifled barrel. The round contains its own propellant and is muzzle loaded. The weapon requires reloading after every shot. Like the M203 the GP-25 can accept a range of different ammunition, from fragmentation and high explosive to flares and smoke. This weapon can been seen attached to a fallen soldier in a trailer. **SIDE NOTE. Again thank you xIGuNDoCIx for this find, but the GP-30 was designed for AK-100 series weapons while the GP-25 is for the older AK's. M203 - The M203 is the official grenade launcher of the US military; or at least one of them. It is attached underneath a M16A4 or M4, and more weapons not shown in Call of Duty 4. It fires a 40mm grenade that can be fragmentation, high explosive, smoke, armor penetration, door breach, and even flares. It has a one round magazine and must be reloaded after every shot. To reload the weapon you simply push the barrel forward allowing the previous shell to fall out, then slide a new round into the chamber, and slide the barrel back. This can be seen used in videos and attached in screen shots. Silencer - It is impossible to state exactly what silencer is used in game, so I will just use the general name. In truth a number of silencers are used in game, ranging from built in ones (see MP5A6SD) to attachable silencers found on the M21, M16A4, and M4. These tools simply allow for the expansion of gas within a closed area, and slow the bullet and explosion to sub-sonic speeds. These things cause a quieter gunshot. The silencer can be seen in screen shots and in the sniper mission video. KA-BAR (Unknown Model Type) - Plain and simple, just a knife, sharp metal with a few other features to allow the knife to be used for survival. The KA-BAR has been a US tradition in knives for centuries and continues to be our main supplier of combat knives. **SIDE NOTE. xIGuNDoCIx as you note in your list it is a KA-BAR or k-bar in your list but I have not seen enough specifics in game to tell exactly what model type.
