Malgré le succès peu probant de Call of Duty : Modern Warfare sur DS, Activision a décidé de réitérer l'expérience de la guerre portable le stylet à la main.

En effet, le prochain opus de la série CoD, intitulé Call of Duty : World at War, vient d'être annoncé par l'intermédiaire de deux images. La console portable de Nintendo était la seule console du moment à ne pas bénéficier de mouture de cet épisode 5, voilà l'oubli réparé.



Histoire de faire d'une pierre deux coups, voici également de nouvelles images de la version Wii. Espérons que le niveau sera un peu plus élevé que les moutures précédentes sur ces deux supports. Aucune date de sortie pour le moment, mais nul doute que l'on pourra s'y essayer d'ici la fin de l'année.</description>

Kiefer Sutherland confirmed to lend his voice, among other new facts.

Jack Bauer is going to war. Activision's Tuesday evening E3 media briefing offered up a wealth of new details about the upcoming shooter sequel Call of Duty: World at War, and chief among them was the revelation that actor Kiefer Sutherland would be lending his voice to the game. Best known for his work as the leading man for Fox's drama 24, Sutherland's proficiency at fighting terrorists may be stretched when he's faced with foes in World War II's Pacific Theater instead.




The new Pacific setting was called one of the &amp;quot;grittiest and most intense campaigns they've experienced&amp;quot; by presenter Mark Lamia, who added that the enemies players will meet &amp;quot;know no fear and show no mercy.&amp;quot;

New additions to the gameplay included bazookas, flame tanks and flamethrowers, which offer massive destructive potential at the risk of equally massive danger to your character – it's like walking around with a bomb strapped to your back.

Activision announced Treyarch's Call of Duty: World at War will feature vehicles in its multiplayer modes. Tanks were given as an example of the vehicles. The game will also include flamethrowers and flame tanks. 

Call of Duty: World at War is set to hit all major systems this November.</description>

Nintendo gave the world a brief look at the next Call of Duty game for the Wii, and we picked the trailer apart for info.

As part of Nintendo's E3 press conference, Reggie Fils-Aime unveiled a number of games for the Wii. Some of these games, such as Animal Crossing: City Folk, were shown in depth, whereas others, such as Call of Duty: World at War, gave us just a quick peek at what to expect. Details are scarce on COD: World at War, but we were able to glean a few details from the brief trailer, which showed the Wii version of the game for the first time. 

For starters, the game appears to be set in World War II (like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions), given that the weapons on display seemed to fit the time period--and it has the words &amp;quot;World at War&amp;quot; in the title. A standard rifle was, of course, part of the arsenal, but most interesting was the flamethrower, which was used liberally throughout the jungle areas as well as the remains of a war-torn city. The impressive inferno of the flamethrower made short work of the few enemy soldiers foolish enough to get close. 





One obvious way in which World at War will differ from Call of Duty 3 for the Wii is that it will make use of the Wii Zapper (the plastic shell that holds a remote and Nunchuk to simulate a gun). That's great news for folks with a Zapper gathering dust in the corner, but that's not the only exciting news. World at War will feature co-op play so that you and a friend can join together to crush the enemy. It's unknown at this time whether or not you'll be able to play cooperatively via the Internet, or if you'll be able to play the entire campaign with another person.

Although the official release date is a vague &amp;quot;coming soon,&amp;quot; Call of Duty: World at War is already an impressive-looking game. The visuals were a cut above most Wii games, and there was no shortage of explosions to keep the action intense. We expect World at War to be on the show floor, so check back soon for more detailed impressions.

Activision lies heute während einer Pressekonferenz auf der E3 die von vielen ersehnte Katze aus dem Sack. Im kommenden Shooter Call of Duty:World at War werden definitv Fahrzeuge im Multiplayer Modus zum Einsatz kommen. Dabei wird es sich voraussichtlich um Panzer und Flammenwerferpanzer handeln. Außerdem gab man bekannt das Kiefer Sutherland eine Rolle im kommenden Zweiter-Weltkriegs-Shooter übernehmen wird. In welche Rolle der Star schlüpfen und wem er seine Stimme leihen wird, steht noch nicht fest.

Activision bestätigt auf der E3 steuerbare Fahrzeuge für den Multiplayerpart des kommenden WW2-Shooters. Somit wird es in World at War aber nicht nur schnell rein in den Panzer heißen, sondern auch schnell wieder raus. Denn neben den bestätigten Flammenwerfern, mit dem man eventuell auch gut einen Panzer angrillen kann, wird es garantiert auch die passende Abwehr zur Bekämpfung der gepanzerten Fahrzeuge geben. Auswirken wird die &amp;quot;Mobilisierung&amp;quot; wohl ebenfalls auf die größe der Mehrspielerkarten und den enthaltenen Spielmodis haben. Weitere Details wird man uns in den nächsten Monaten, ganz nach Publisher-Art, natürlich wieder Häppchenweise präsentieren.</description>

Si les détracteurs du troisième épisode de la série Call of Duty frissonnent à l'idée de revoir Treyarch aux commandes de World at War, voilà une nouvelle qui risque de ne pas calmer leurs tremblements.

Dans une interview accordée à PCGH (ici, en anglais), Cesar Stastny, membre du studio de développement nous révèle que Call of Duty : World at War ne bénéficiera pas des améliorations graphiques de DirectX 10. Pour la simple raison de conserver la même qualité visuelle sur toutes les plateformes sans donner avantage à qui que se soit.

Une jolie pirouette pour ne pas avouer la fainéantise et le développement dans l'urgence d'un jeu qui reprend le moteur graphique de son prédécesseur ainsi que la technologie DemonWare d'Activision (utile pour la création de lobby etc). Bien sûr Treyarch annonce fièrement avoir amélioré le tout mais le doute reste entier quand on voit la piètre qualité du travail accomplit par le studio sur le troisième épisode d'un série mythique. Qui n'aura d'ailleurs jamais vu le jour sur PC... Wait and see.</description>

Da Call of Duty: World of War auf den Systemen PC, PS3 und Xbox 360 in technischer Hinsicht eine identische Qualität aufweisen soll, wird seitens der Entwickler auf die Implementierung einer DirectX 10-Unterstützung verzichtet. Der  Einsatz von DX10 wäre mit einem unverhältnismäßig hohen technischen Mehraufwand verbunden. Man schließt aber nicht aus, dass DX10 später noch mit einem Patch nachgereicht werden kann. Die Wahrscheinlichkeit ist aber eher als verschwindend gering einzustufen.</description>

PCGH: What will be the base technology of Call of Duty: World at War? Do you as a new developer write a brand new engine from scratch of do you reuse many parts of the technology of Call of Duty 4? Why do you decide program a new engine/modify the existing technology? 

Cesar Stastny: Treyarch has worked on various games during the last decade so we had our own engines, including the one on which all the Spiderman games were built. For Call of Duty: World at War, we chose the original Infinity Ward Call of Duty4: Modern Warfare engine as the base technology. Call of Duty 4 is widely considered the best cross platform game to date (Xbox 360/PS3/PC), so it is logical to consider its engine as the best next generation cross platform as well. We chose it for its excellent lighting and game scripting. We enhanced the existing Call of Duty 4 engine with visual improvements, new effects, cooperative multiplayer, as well as using Activision's proprietary DemonWare technology for online, lobbies, matchmaking on PC and PS3 platforms which do not come with the equivalent of Xbox Live.</description>

A recap of 2 more Single Player levels that we were shown on the Community First Look event.  Both look 100% unique, and appear to be a great deal of fun.


- Single Player Level: Sniper (unofficial name)

You enter the level as a Russian soldier dizzy and confused, the screen is shaking and everyone around you appears to be dead.  Voices of German Infantry can be heard until they eventually appear; the enemy platoon walks past you apparently checking bodies to make sure they are dead.  Once they move on, your senses set in and you come back to awareness.  Across from you awakens a Russian sniper, who is apparently a higher rank because he guides the mission from here on out.  Enter actual Gameplay.

The sniper instructs you to take his rifle since he is unable to wield it, due to a wound.  You take the rifle from him and he teaches you how to snipe, waiting for the perfect moment, being the hunter.  You hear and see German infantry walking about and he instructs you to wait as a tank rumbles by.

At this point you take aim for your first kill shot and wait until a soldier strafes behind a sitting German, pull the trigger – bang, down the two of them go with a single bullet.  You waited and waited, only firing your kill-shot when the roar of planes overhead deafened your shot not to reveal your existence.  A dog did take notice however and comes after you and your comrade.  In the demo, a skilled hip-shot took down the mutt; perhaps a melee would be even more rewarding.</description>

Wie IAM402 (CoD4 Community Manager) in seinem neuesten Blog Eintrag bekannt gab, werden derzeit einige neue, von der Community entwickelten Spielmodis, getestet. Er läßt dabei allerdings im Raum stehen, ob diese möglicherweise in einem kommenden Patch realisiert werden sollen, oder evtl. sogar in CoD: World at War integriert werden könnten.

Bare-bones Team Deathmatch

Dieser Spielmodus basiert auf dem eigentlichen Team Deathmatch Modus, sorgt aber durch das Deaktivieren der Perks für eine größere Chancengleichheit.
402 schreibt dazu: &amp;quot;Keine Entschuldigungen mehr. Nur du, dein Skill und deine Waffe.&amp;quot;

Hardcore HQ

Diese Hardcoreversion des alten HQ Modus, entfernt die HUD Elemente und stellt die Settings bei &amp;quot;friendly fire&amp;quot; auf an. 
402: &amp;quot;Nun ist ein größeres taktisches Gameplay von nöten um zu gewinnen&amp;quot;.

Multi-bomb Search and Destroy

Endlich darf nun jeder seine eigene, mitgeführte Bombe zünden und kann das feindliche Team angreifen und so zeigen was er kann.


Hardcore FFA

Auch hier gibt es nun die Hardcore Version für Free For All, dem ehemaligen Deathmatch Mode. Auch hier wurde extra Schaden aktiviert, kein HUD und keine Regeneration bei der Heilung.


Zugegeben, können Severadmins durch die Settings oder MODs, manuell auch schon das ein oder andere so verändern, wie in den Spielmodis beschrieben.
Doch für die breite Masse der Zocker, wären neue, in das Spiel implementierte Standard Spielmodis sicher einfacher zu handhaben. Vielleicht können sich einige Gametypes beim Testen ja sogar durchsetzen und finden so den Weg in zukünftige Spiele.</description>

Longer Development Cycle

Unlike Call of Duty 3, Treyarch has a full 2 year development cycle on Call of Duty: World at War. Not having to juggle simultaneous development of a next-gen console title and a completely different last-gen console title within an already shortened development constraint (11 months) has provided Treyarch a capacity to focus their team effort to deliver an exciting feeling and impressive looking title.

Based on the Call of Duty 4 Game Engine

Expanding upon the engine used to power the hit game Call of Duty 4 allowed Treyarch the opportunity to play test their model very early on in development. This is great for multiple reasons, the most important being that anything that didn’t look or feel right during development was addressed early on in the project.

Accurate Core Scaling

High end PC owners rejoice, as your investment in quad core technology is about to pay off. An accurate scaling of core performance is one perk of the overhauled engine, so no longer will a dual core outperform your four core machine.

Increased Capacity of the Physics Engine

Some of the most impressive things I saw had to do with the direction that Treyarch has taken the physics processing in World at War. One of the things that I really enjoy about games is their ability to draw the player into them, and in my view it is the little things that make the realism more apparent. Treyarch Technical Director Dave King has worked on implementing and perfecting a number of new features, the least of which is an increased capacity of the physics engine within the game.</description>

Einige Auserwählte hatten bereits die Gelegenheit, während eines 'Community First Look' bei Treyarch in Santa Monica einen exklusiven Blick auf einige Singleplayer-Missionen von Call of Duty: World at War zu werfen. Unter ihnen auch die Redakteure von IGN.com. Ihnen wurde erlaubt, ein paar Details zu den Missionen preiszugeben.

Einer der Level trägt den Arbeitstitel „PBY“, da man den größten Teil der Mission in einer PBY Catalina verbringt. Das amerikanische Flugboot kam zwischen 1930 und 1940 zum Einsatz. Als Crewmitglied einer PBY Catalina stoßen wir in besagtem Level auf einen japanischen Konvoi inmitten des Pazifiks. Die Catalina ist ein recht großes Flugzeug, aber aus nicht bekannten Gründen scheit sie etwas unterbesetzt zu sein. Somit ist es die Aufgabe des Spielers die unterschiedlichen Waffen zu bedienen um den Konvoi aufzureiben. Hierzu stehen unter anderem mehrere 50mm-Maschinengewehre von Browning und eine Zwillingsgeschützkanzel mit dem gleichen Kaliber zur Verfügung. Die Piloten einem jeweils, welches Geschütz jeweils besetzt werden soll und Ihr müsst Euch schnell durch das wackelige Flugzeug manövrieren um feuern zu können.

Man könnte meinen, dass man mit den Maschinengewehren nicht allzu viel gegen eine schwere Panzerung ausrichten kann, aber die Schiffe der japanischen Flotte sind glücklicherweise recht dünnhäutig (zumindest im Spiel) und beladen mit jeder Menge Munition und Sprengstoff. Die Catalina kreist recht langsam über den Konvoi, der ein recht leichtes Ziel darstellt. Im Vergleich zu anderen Leveln, bei denen man dem Gegner im dichten Dschungel Mann gegen Mann gegenübersteht, scheint dieser nicht zu anspruchsvoll, bringt aber durchaus Abwechslung ins Spiel. Der Level ist durchaus vergleichbar mit der COD4-Mission in einem AC-130 Gunship oder dem Flug in einem US-Bomber über Deutschland bei COD- United Offensive.

Der Kampf gegen die Japaner ist nicht die einzige Front, an der man ein World at War kämpft. Zum ersten Mal lüftet Treyarch den Vorhang und gewährt einen Blick auf die Europa-Kampagne. Präsentiert wurde ein Level an der russischen Front zu einem Zeitpunkt als die Deutschen sich bereits auf dem Rückzug vor der Roten Armee befanden. In der Rolle eines Russen beginnt der erste Level der Kampagne mit einem von Rauch verfinsterten Himmel. Die Stimmung ist düster, eine stark dezimierte Kolonne liegt sterbend am Boden und Krähen picken an den Körpern toter Soldaten. Ein Scharfschütze bittet den Spieler, ihm zu folgen. Der Sniper ist verletzt und so ist es an Euch, seine Rolle zu übernehmen. Im Schutz der dröhnenden Bomber müssen zunächst zwei deutsche Soldaten ausgeschaltet werden. Sobald die Tarnung auffliegt, bricht die Hölle aus. Explosionen, Gewehrfeuer, zerberstende Gebäude und mittendrin die beiden russischen Soldaten, die um ihr Leben laufen. 

Genau an dieser Stelle, an der die Spannung kaum noch auszuhalten war, beendete Treyarch die Demo. Warten wir einfach ab, was uns Activsion und Treyarch in der kommenden Woche auf der E3 präsentieren. Aber eins ist jetzt schon klar; Treyarch bietet ein buntes Mix bezogen aufs das Gameplay. Ob sie damit erfolgreich sein werden, sehen wir, sobald das Spiel Ende des Jahres in den Regalen steht. Wir sind gespannt.</description>

Auf den ersten Blick wirkt die Harem von Gaia, bedingt durch die klare und gradlinige Struktur der Wüstenstadt, etwas steril. Doch überall wurden viele Models platziert, um die Atmosphäre zu beleben. Verwinkelte, für diese Gegend typisch aufgeteilte Gassen und einige begehbare Häuser, sorgen für verdeckte Annäherungswege. 

Auch für Sniper gibt es da und dort erhöhte Positionen, so leider auch das hohe Haus im Mittelteil der Map, von dem man zwar nicht die komplette Umgebung einsehen kann, aber dennoch eine sehr dominate Schussposition hat, zumal es auch nur einen Leiteraufgang gibt. Zusätzlich zu den Strassen, können auch stellenweise die Dachterassen als Spielzonen mitbenutzt werden. Neben fehlendem Gridfile, was besonders in den Gebäuden für leichtes Flackern sorgt, gibt es einige kleinere Proportionsprobleme mit Treppen und Türen, die aber kaum ins Gewicht fallen.

In der neuen Folge Escalation fällt die britische SAS Mannschaft über ein Lager der Terroristen her, während Scharfschütze Schwieters sich bald von der Mission losreißt, um seine eigene Fehde zu vollenden.

Die fünfte Episode der Retaliation Serie ist kein Leichtgewicht mehr. Knappe 90 Megabyte hat Autor SgtPadrino diesmal auf stolze, aber sehenswerte 16 Filmminuten verteilt.

British tabloid the Mirror is reporting that Microsoft is facing a massive repair bill for it's Xbox 360 Elite console.

It looks like the 'red ring of death' strikes again for Microsoft as their prestigious Xbox 360 Elite console succumbs to faulty hardware. 

The Mirror is quoting a figure in the region of £500 million (€630 million) for the cost of repairing the faulty consoles. 

The fourth generation of of the Xbox 360 was considered to be resistant to it's predecessor's problems but now hundreds of owners are returning their £290 consoles which are subsequently being sent to Germany to repair. 

Last year 230,000 Xbox steering wheels had to be recalled for overheating whilst £500 million was spent on recalling power cords that caught fire. Although 12 million Xbox consoles have been sold since 2003, experts say 33% will experience overheating problems. 

In a statement Microsoft said: 

The majority of Xbox 360 owners enjoy a great experience with their console. Anyone with a problem should call Xbox customer service.</description>

L'épisode cinq de ce FPS au succès mondial devrait mettre en scène les batailles dans le Pacifique ainsi que les combats ayant fait rage entre 1939 et 1945. 

Le titre d'Activision promet des environnements toujours plus réalistes et une IA entièrement repensée.

Mettons tout de suite les choses au point : à notre plus grand regret, nous n’avons pu prendre en main CoD : World At War. Pour lot de consolation, un trailer d’introduction et quelques minutes de séquence in-game. La vidéo, en vue à la première personne, met en scène un soldat, que l’on devine américain, assister à la torture d’un de ses compagnon d’infortune par un officier japonais. 



Le GI se fait finalement égorger, et juste avant de connaître le même sort, notre héros est délivré par un coéquipier. The Call of Duty 4 (CoD4) community is in a state of flux with the European summer LAN's lingering dangerously on the horizon and the rejection of Clanbase and its Eurocup recently, you'd be forgiven for thinking that CoD4 has started to stagnate, a community waiting for something to happen. 

Ryan 'raf1' Palmer is one man whose taken it upon himself to push the competitive community forward, he does however present quite a problem for both me (as an interviewer) and the community, the good sort of problem though. He's one of the first competitive mod' developers whose relatively high skilled, having just been accepted into invite along with his Tetris team mates. He's also a personal friend of mine, and in theory should know exactly what the competitive CoD4 community wants from its 'promod', I'm not so sure however.

For those who don't know “promod was designed for two reasons. To unite the European competitive community behind one standardised ruleset, and because development on 'PAM' - the current competitive mod has stopped, something was needed to fill the gap.”

When asked why so many rulesets had developed independently, he said “the main difference with CoD4 and the other titles [CoD and CoD2] is the difference between the stock and competitive game. In CoD you could join a server and do exactly the same things as you would in a match. CoD2 was fairly similar, CoD4 however isn't. The guns behave completely different in the stock game, have different damage, and you've all these perks like airstrikes, grenade launchers and so on.”</description>

You can re-install CoD4 and use the standard location OR download Zip-file with updated 1.7 files.

Upon arriving at Treyach, we were all guided to a meeting/cinema room where we were introduced to Mark Lamia (Treyarch Studio Head), Noah Heller (Activision Senior Producer), and Rich Farrelly (Treyarch Creative Director).

After a brief introduction by each, Mark Lamia began telling us about their goals with this new title. Mark said the team’s goal is to step up and create a Call of Duty like no other. He hopes they can show the community they’ve got what it takes to make a memorable game. He acknowledged that the PC community might be a little concerned since Call of Duty 3 wasn’t for the PC, but he says the team plans on interacting with and supporting the various platform communities in the future when they get their own forums up and more info on the game comes out.

Mark sounded really passionate about Call of Duty: World At War, and for the entire studio tour that followed he was with us every step of the way and answering most of the questions that came up directed at the various developers we met. If he hadn’t been introduced as the President of Treyarch I could have been easily fooled he was a Designer of some sort. Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has sold more copies than Halo 3. It sits atop the most played list on Xbox LIVE like an invulnerable king perched on a throne. It was, for many of you, 2007's Game of the Year (not us though, but it was close). It raised the FPS bar, a bar many developers have failed to reach since. And now the time has come for the next game in the multi-million selling series. 

This time though we're going back to WW2, there's a four-player co-op campaign, vehicles in multiplayer and CoD3 developer Treyarch is in control. We sat down with senior producer Noah Heller and creative lead Rich Farrelly to get the first details on the game and find out why there will never be a numbered Call of Duty game ever again.




- There was a lot of speculation about going back to WW2. When do you think games will be done with a WW2 setting?

Noah Heller: It's going to be a long time before WW2 is done. It's about whether you can tell new stories and whether you can present something in a contemporary new fashion. The player doesn't want the same old thing. If you deliver that he shouldn't buy it any more than he shouldn't buy a repeat police drama or a Grand Theft Auto game set in the same place every time. We want to say: 'OK, this is not the WW2 game you're used to seeing. This is something new. Though otherwise allowed to go in any direction with their games, the student development teams were bound by one highly specific guideline: the games must promote the message of creating a sustainable environment. Following several months of competition (the contest began last September), the list of participants was whittled down to just six finalists: Team BAAM! from Germany, Team Drunk Puppy from Belgium, Team ECOThink from France, Team Gomz from Korea, Team Mother Gaia Studio from Brazil, and Team SiSS from Germany. - Fixed waypoints for Killhouse and Broadcast. (added waypoints near spawn points so bots don't get lost, and fixed waypoints
that go through or too close to walls, trees etc..).
- Fixed &amp;quot;error dobj for xmodel 'body_mp_arab_regular_assault' has more than 128 bones (see console for details)&amp;quot;. This was caused
by having more than one weapon attached to the body. All i did was put a return in the stow_on_back and stow_on_hip functions.

Known Bugs

- After several map rotations the server will fill up with ZMBI clients, this is a bug in the executable which 
has not been fixed. I'm on the way to fixing it however it's very time consuming figuring it out.
- Bots will sometimes get stuck on the spot, it's like their threads get terminated and they just stand there.
- Bots will sometimes get caught inside dumpsters, and or other geometry, if this occurs, please take a screenshot 
and send it to me at perry_hart@hotmail.com. It can probably be fixed by changing the waypoints around.

Publisher Activision gab nun bekannt, dass der erste Trailer zu Call of Duty: World at War bereits am 21. Juni erscheint. Leider soll das gute Stück erstmal exklusiv auf dem Xbox Live-Marktplatz zur Verfügung stehen. Sobald wir mit dem Video dienen können, bekommt ihr es serviert. 



Das Spiel wird von Treyarch (entwickelten schon 'Call of Duty 3') seit zwei Jahren entwickelt - Entwicklungsplattform soll die Xbox 360 sein, Versionen für PC und &amp;quot;andere aktuelle Konsolen&amp;quot; seien aber geplant. Thematisiert wird, mal wieder, der Zweite Weltkrieg. Diesmal geht es aber nicht in die Normandie, sondern für die Amerikaner in den Pazifik und seine Küsten, während die Sowjetunion an der Ostfront kämpfen soll. Diese beiden Kampagnen werden euch im Einzelspielermodus beschäftigen.

Kooperativer Modus für vier Spieler
Der Mehrspielermodus steht zudem ebenfalls im Mittelpunkt - wenig überraschend. Dafür dürfen sich Spieler auf einen kooperativen Mehrspielermodus freuen, der für zwei bis vier Spieler ausgelegt ist; sowohl online allein vor einer Konsole als auch offline im Splitscreen. Dieser Modus umfasst die kompletten beiden Einzelspieler-Kampagnen und erfreut sich darüber hinaus an dem aus 'Call of Duy 4'-bekannten Punktesystem. Freischaltbare Waffen und Fähigkeiten sind ebenfalls geplant.

Das Partysystem soll in 'Call of Duty: World at War' nochmals überarbeitet werden. Gruppenleiter werden ihren Mitspielern direkt Befehle senden können, heißt es. Ebenfalls neu: Ab sofort kann getaucht und geschwommen werden. Nicht neu, aber trotzdem interessant: Fahrzeuge sind sowohl im Einzel- als auch im Mehrspielermodus wieder vorhanden. Treyarch nutzt zudem die alte 'CoD4'-Engine und ergänzt diese um eine Reihe neuer Features. So sollen künftig mehr Objekte zerstörbar sein.

Noch düsterer, noch ungeschönter
Und für die packende Atmosphäre wird auch gesorgt. 'CoD: World at War' soll düsterer als seine Vorgänger werden, statt glorreicher Befreiung Europas geht es mehr um blinde Vergeltung. So soll schon in der Eröffnungssequenz gezeigt werden, wie ein US-Soldat gefoltert und seine Kehle aufgeschlitzt wird. Der Krieg selbst soll &amp;quot;ungeschönter und noch direkter&amp;quot; gezeigt werden, was auch das Verhalten der KI-Nazis beeinflussen soll. Erwartet keine Gnade!

ModernRcon v0.7 is finally here after 4 long months of inactivity... As with v0.6, this version isn't exactly what it was planned to be; but there is good reason. If you recall, I had planned v0.7 to include Auto-kick features for real-time chat monitoring. Unfortunately, there were complications.

 

I could give you all the technical reasons why it couldn't happen, but it really just boiled down to the nature of the RCON protocol, PBUCON protocol, and the CoD4 game. Since anybody can change their name to mimic another, it was a security nightmare. Furthermore, PBUCON does not send GUID's with chat messages, so short of streaming the log file, it would not be hard for someone to get another person banned by changing to his name real quick. 



So instead, v0.7 has the Config Builder! This allows you to capture the state of your CoD4 server and save it to a *.cfg file on your computer for uploading to your game server for future use. 

Version 0.7 Changes:

Config Builder tool! 
Players with negative score will now show in the list (always). 
Infinite loading bar issues resolved.

Three weeks have past since and the only thing we can report is :


UK Submissions closed on 23 May 2008 

France Submissions closed le 16 mai 2008

Spain Submissions closed del 23 de mayo de 2008 

Italy submission ? No news on start date.

Germany is still to be determined.


May 16 was the last day a little bit of news was announced.


So still excisting are the questions :

Will there be more European countries added as was promissed?

What about Australia or Asia ?

When will the winner(s) be announced ?

Does the CoD4 community get to play the winning maps as extra standard maps ?


Many of the CoD4 mappers now believe that this whole contest just vanished into this big black hole of silence. 

What started in february as a nice gesture towards all mappers, with the promise of some communication and judgement of their work by IW, ended up in a no communication, a rigid and unfair contest and because of its importance; something many mappers cant talk openly about.</description>

Das englische „Official Xbox 360 Magazine“ offenbart erste konkrete Infos zum neuen Call of Duty-Ableger. Wie sie berichten, soll das Setting weniger einem Kriegsfilm, als mehr einem Survival-Horror-Spiel ähneln. Man versetzt den Spieler in den Pazifik im Kampf gegen die Japaner und versucht, sich so von dem doch schon sehr ausgelutschten WWII-Setting zu distanzieren.

Auch die Art der Kämpfe soll sich durch den Stil der Japaner von den Vorgängern stark unterscheiden. So soll es vorkommen, dass die Gegner in Bäumen oder Tümpeln auf euch lauern, sich tot stellen, um dann aus heiterem Himmel zu zuschlagen. So soll eine sehr beklemmende Spannung erzeugt werden. Weiterhin werden euch die Gegner nicht nur mit Feuerwaffen attackieren, sondern auch von Katanas Gebrauch machen. Ob man diese selber benutzen können wird, wurde nicht gesagt.

Auch die schon in Call of Duty-4 verwendete Engine soll stark überarbeitet worden sein. So soll es nun möglich sein, ganze Gebäude in Brand zu stecken oder gleich ganz in die Luft zu sprengen. Ähnlich wie in Battlefield, sollen die Gebäude in Echtzeit zerstörbar sein, so dass man sich eigene Wege durch Wände sprengen können soll.

Weiterhin sollen die Umgebungsgeräusche durch den Einsatz von satten 96 Audiokanälen authentischer denn je werden. Insgesamt soll das Spiel weitaus brutaler werden, als seine Vorgänger. Laut den Entwicklern von Treyarch ist dies aber nötig, um eine authentische Atmosphäre zu vermitteln. Wir sind jedenfalls gespannt, wie sich Call of Duty: World At War letztlich spielen lassen wird und ob es seinen grandiosen Vorgänger sogar noch übertreffen kann. Now the stage must be set. Where and when will the action take place? As rumoured the action will indeed take place in the World War 2 time frame, specifically focusing on the Pacific theatre of war between the Americans and Japanese. You'll also get to see action between the Russians and Germans as Russia advances on Berlin. 

There will be lots of new additions to the series through this release: 


CoD4 engine will be used: To keep things fluid and the gameplay environments will be more destructible

It will use the Call of Duty 4 engine - Good news for those who loved Call of Duty 4's fluid shooting action is that by using the same engine, this should feel largely the same. The biggest difference between the two are the environments are now more destructible.


Japanese tactics! - The main new gameplay advance for the series is the unusually aggressive tactics of the Japanese as they set ambushes, hide in trees, flank fearlessly, hide in the ground... creative director Rich Farrelly says World at War has more in common with survival horror than war movies.

Portland psychiatrist Dr. Jerald Block specialises in treating those who have a massively multiplayer online game problem. 

In an interview with the Boston Globe, Block added to the argument that he put forward in an editorial in the American Journal of Psychiatry that 'Internet Addiction' should be a recognised term. 

The good doctor believes that his clients are more ashamed of playing World of Warcraft than looking at pornographic images. He said, &amp;quot;Some people come in for trouble with Internet porn. But the computer gamers tend to be harder to treat. People feel a lot of shame around computer games. Whereas, it's socially acceptable to have a porn problem.&amp;quot;

Regular Joes and many psychiatrists just don't understand the complex world of games or the jargon that goes with them, says Block. The struggle to reach level 70 is not understood, nor is being a member of a guild, or the mundanity of grinding. 

He gave the example of a client who was a regular player of massively multiplayer online game EVE Online, and who after playing for years, had built up around $17,000 of virtual assets. Then another player took out a virtual contract on his life, and his character and assets were lost. Block said, &amp;quot;How does he describe that experience and have any of his friends understand it? It's so bizarre and otherworldly. In fact, it's so bizarre that many therapists don't want to go there.&amp;quot;

Spieler können einige Server-Cheats aktivieren!

Per Zufall ist ein Eingriff per Konsole in den Server herausgefunden worden, mit dem jeder (!)Spieler - ohne in Besitz des Rcon-Passworts zu sein - die Cheats auf dem Server aktivieren kann, obwohl diese eigentlich ausgeschaltet sind! 

Davon betroffen ist u.a. der Befehl g_compassShowEnemies, welcher eigentlich cheatprotected sein sollte! Doch ein Spieler kann diesen Wert auf 1 setzen und die Gegner dauerhaft als rote Punkte auf dem Radar anzeigen lassen! 

Lösung:
Um dies zu verhindern, sollte jeder (!) Server-Admin die CVAR-Checks des Punkbusters um den folgenden Check ergänzen: 

pb_sv_cvar sv_cheats IN 0

pb_sv_cvar cg_thirdperson in 0
pb_sv_cvar cg_compassshowenemies in 0 

Diese Checks finden sich üblicherweise in der pbsv.cfg im aktiven PB-Ordner des Servers. 
Anschließend den Punkbuster mit /pb_sv_restart neu starten. Sobald dann ein Spieler die Server-Cheats aktivieren will, wird er von Punkbuster unmittelbar gekickt.

Dieser spezielle Check ist aktuell weder in den empfohlenen Settings von punksbusted.com noch in den downloadbaren Punkbuster-Configs der Ligen (Electronic Sports League &amp;amp; Clanbase) enthalten, weshalb man ihn unbedingt von Hand nachtragen sollte!
Ein Admin der ESL ist informiert, ein Update der entsprechenden Settings sollte bald folgen.

Außerdem hat sich gezeigt, dass die von ESL &amp;amp; CB integrierte &amp;quot;Schlafzeit&amp;quot; des Punkbusters mit 500 Millisekunden eventuell zu lang sein könnte, um Spieler wirklich ausreichend zu überprüfen. 
Der Default-Wert des Punkbusters liegt bei 60 Millisekunden, Streaming-Gesellschaften wie PsB empfehlen einen Wert von 100. 

Der Befehl zum Anpassen dieses Wertes findet sich in der pbsv.cfg und lautet:

What does the exploit do?

Basically allows players to turn sv_cheats on, it will be set on for them only, but then they can use any cheat protected dvar.


Server-administrators :

The only way to prevent this is by adding this line to your pb server config file: 
(pbsv.cfg found in CoD4/pb folder)

pb_sv_cvar sv_cheats IN 0

You can also add this to be sure...

pb_sv_cvar cg_thirdperson in 0
pb_sv_cvar cg_compassshowenemies in 0 

And use next value : pb_sv_sleep 100

Then restart your server, and you would be protected from this exploit.


This is clearly something Punkbuster and IW will have a look at.

New Call of Duty: World At War details and information have been revealed regarding the next Call of Duty. The name given to the fifth game is Call of Duty: World at War.

This months issue of the gamesTM magazine have revealed more information. 
The magazine says:

“Right, apparently it’s going to be grittier, as gritty as ANY game out there to quote. The enemy will be scarier and use new tactics.”

“There will be co-op for the first time in a Call of Duty. Also there will be vehicles and squad-based elements to the multiplayer.”

“The opening scene of the first level we are shown is a Japanese commander stubbing a cigarette out in the eye of a prisoner before slitting his throat - the blood splatters and dribbles down the side of the tent you are being held in. He turns towards you to deal out the same treatment but help arrives just in time. Cue a daring level-long escape.”

How nasty does that sound! But overall Call of Duty: World At War sounds good with the use of vehicles and co-op for the first time. It sounds as if its moving into the Battlefield vision. Guess we will see more in the coming weeks or months.
