Call of Duty 2 - eXtreme+ v2.4 goes modern
For the CoD2 players out there who have not had a chance to play CoD4 yet, you are in luck. The next best thing will be available to you soon. The coders at mycallofduty.com will soon be unveiling version 2.4 of their uber-successful CoD2 multiplayer mod eXtreme+. And you guessed it...the mod will be packed with CoD4-like modern weapons!

Sick and tired of hearing all the CoD4 guys talking about the Desert Eagle's power? Or the Barrett's reach? How about the awesome firepower of the SAW?
Well all these cool weapons are in v2.4 ...and more. Heck, {PST}*Joker, and the boyz at mycallofduty.com have packed their new mod with weapons that CoD4 wishes it had.
When I asked {PST}*Joker who was instrumental in coding the weapons, he came back with this:
"Is it really necessary to pin point the 1 or 2 guys? None of us are interested in sole credit or anything. We are a team and work as such" - {PST}*Joker
Kudos to Joker, his team and their 60's hippy lifestyle.
The new guns
There are many new weapons to choose from in version 2.4 of eXtreme+. Here is a quickie list:

Status of the mod
Currently, v2.4 is in an advanced Beta state. In fact, it is so far advanced that the public is allowed to play it.
Simply point your in-game browser to the extremegamerz.net server:
64.34.163.208:28960
and you will be transported to a revisionist history of WWII. Here you will find GI Joe's, Russian Infantry Ivan's and British Tommies slugging it out with the best of the Wehrmacht's goosesteppers - all wielding a wide variety of modern weapons.
Once you are in eXtremegamerz's server, you will notice they are using eXtreme+'s Map Vote system. If the map chosen has the red letters "MW's", you will get your choice of modern weapons.
A quickie review of the Modern Weapons
The development of v2.4 is still ongoing and for this reason, this review can be considered a "first-look" into this new (and possibly last) revision of eXtreme+.
Without a question, the most refined of the new weapons in v2.4 are the sniper rifles. Whether it is the M40A3 or the mighty Barrett, these things can reach out and touch anything on the map. Given Joker's ties with the CoD Sniper-Community, the beautiful touches made to the sniper rifles are obviously a testament to the mycallofduty.com modder's first love.
The snipers look and feel is awesome:

The good news is that the run'n gunners also have something to crow about:
The MP5 family are probably the best mg's in the MW set. While they currently are not as refined as the sniper rifles, they are deadly at close to mid-range. As with most of the modern guns in eXtreme+, they have a nice kick to them - and it will take a good deal of practice to become expert at their use.

The SAW is also represented in v2.4's arsenal. This is a hell of a cannon and is really cool to shoot. However, in ADS mode, the gun stock is so large in your view it blocks out all peripheral vision - making you eXtremely vulnerable to flanking attacks. No doubt the gun developer did this to even out the huge advantage you will have when firing this weapon.

Overall, most of the new mg's have the same feel as the B.A.R. in CoD2. The one exception is the MP5 which really feels good - and is closest to the Thompson in that respect.
The AK47 has an MP44 quality to it, but it isn't quite there yet.
As I said, all the weapons have, in their eXtremegamerz.net configuration, a great deal of kick and thus selecting burst-fire mode is the best solution - unless the server you are on modifies their parameters.
Some weapons are not ready-for prime time. I found that out when I tried my CoD4-fave, the M16. In its current state the M16 pulls to the left; that is, rounds will fire up and to the left of your M16 sights. In addition to the mis-alignment issues, other weapons don't have that "polished" look to them. Having said that, as far as I know, there are no other CoD2 mods out there featuring new weapons. The guys at mycallofduty.com know about these issues and will be adding their finishing touches to the guns soon and I'm sure the end result will be amazing.
If you are a CoD2 player, v2.4 is going to be insane. It is the best multipurpose, multiplayer mod currently available, and the modern weapons have simply made it unbeatable.
