    What We’re Working On At IW Right Now.

    The past few weeks have been busy behind the scenes, regretfully not very busy news wise, but I thought I’d give you guys an update on what’s happening behind the scenes in the meantime.

    PC Patch 1.6

    Last update I let you know we had to send it back to development due to a few bugs which we’re found. Regretfully not much has changed, but the team is still working on it with plans to get it out, when I get a better ETA on when you can expect it I’ll be sure to pass it along as well as details on what all it will include.

    New Infinityward.com In The Works:

    Right now we’re working on a new design for the InfinityWard.com site that will help us make it the more OFFICIAL one-stop news and community source for fans of our games. It will essentially take the place of Charlieoscardelta.com, and replace the old Infinityward.com and give us a dedicated dev blog where I can post a lot of the stuff I typically only post here. I’ll still post it all here as well as well as more non-game related things, but it will also be there too for those who aren’t familiar with this blog.

    We’re also working on an updated dedicated forum software for it to replace our current set up, user profiles, and other new features. We’re aiming to have that launched by mid-June if all goes well. Meanwhile, we’re expanding our staff here at Infinity Ward in the web department and looking for someone to join me in maintaining the back-end / technical side of Infinityward.com. If you’re a “web guy” and would like to join the team here at Infinity Ward to help me out with back-end web stuff, then check out the job listing on our site and apply:

    Job Posting: Web Builder

    The job essentially consists of maintaining the new site we’re in the process of building and help as we build onto it in the future.

    Online Store + New Shirts

    While we’re building the new IW site, we’re also preparing to launch a new online store where we can offer some of the exclusive typically Dev Team only shirts we make throughout development. Such as the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare shirt I wore in the first video blog I did a few weeks back. I’ll also be wearing a new one we printed in the next video podcast that should be going up this week. Before the launch of the store though, in the next week or so I’m going to be posting up a few of the T-shirt designs we have planned and let you guys vote on which ones you’d like to see printed. Then we’ll print them up and put them in the store for you to get. We’re working on finalizing it all now, so be on the look for that in the coming week or so. The Store may launch before the new IW site, or with the full site launch in June (still working that out).

    Community Mapping Contest

    We’re finished taking submissions from US candidates and are about to open up submissions for UK, Spain, Italy, and France soon. We’re just now getting the approved legal back from all those territories now which will allow us to finalize it and get it up. Meanwhile we’ll be judging the maps submitted from US users over the next few weeks.

    No News on 360 or PS3 Side

    At this time there’s no news or updates on the console side of things. To clear up any rumors I seem to be sent a lot. We ARE NOT removing any perks or ‘nerfing’ any weapons now or in the future. M16 is staying as is, same with martyrdom and juggernaut. So we can put that one to rest, no changes to perks or weapons are coming.

    Conclusion

    That’s about it for now, we lost the #1 spot on Xbox Live to the extremely fast blitz attack from GTA IV which put us into 2nd place, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we make a comeback over the course of a few weeks as people start beating it’s single player, whether we do or not it’s great to have another great game to be fighting for the #1 spot with.

    Other than that, everything else the team is working on is under wraps. I hope to get another video podcast up later this week that answers some of the over thousand questions I received from viewers of the first one, as well as give away some of the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare shirts I wore in the first one that you guys asked about. I have about 10 extras I plan on giving out to subscribers of the video podcast.

    Call of Duty 5 details leaked

    Rumour and speculation are rife that Call of Duty 5 is not only playable, but already going through the qualify assurance phase.



    Previously it got reported that Call of Duty 5 will be released on no less that six platforms. However, according to inside sources, Infinity Ward won't be working on the title. Instead, Call of Duty 3 developer Treyarch will be working on the game, as previously hinted last December.

    The game is also going to be set in the Pacific theatre of World War II according to the same sources and reputed to be using the same game engine as Call of Duty 4.

    Apparently it will only be a 'matter of time' before we see a demo suggesting the game could be released well before March 2009 as previously indicated.

    Luigi Auriemma has reported a vulnerability in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which can be exploited by malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service).

    In CoD4 has been introduced a new type of connectionless command (like
    getinfo, getstatus, connect and so on) called "stats" that seems
    related to player statistics and can be of 7 types (from 0 to 6) which
    are sent by the client in sequential order just after having joined the
    remote game.

    Exists an additional type (7) which is accepted by the server and if a
    client uses it the remote server will crash due to a memcpy() with a
    negative size value (the attacker has no control over the source data
    and this value).

    The stats packet requires that the client is in the server since the
    qport value specified in it and both IP and port must match those used
    by the player, so the attacker must know the password if the server is
    protected, being not banned and moreover having a valid cdkey if the
    internet server requires it.

    Solution so far :

    Restrict access to game servers to trusted people only.


    What CoD4 Community Mapping Contest ??

    On March 31th the official Infinity Ward Map Contest ended. (as announced on their frontpage.)

    More then 50 maps were submitted on the IW forum. All mappers were buzzing with excitement because after all these years their work finally would be judged by da Masters.

    And we all waited and waited some more.....

    Then, on the April the 15th, IW's Community Relations Manager; Fourzerotwo posted this :

    " We’re getting ready to announce official submission guidelines / location for the Community Map Contest. In the coming week or so we’re going to be letting you know where you can go to officially sign-up and submit your Custom Community Map on the PC. It will also have a list of all official prizing that the winning map will walk away with. We’ve secured some nice prizes so I’m anxious to get this thing kicked off and a winner announced.

    I should also have some official news for you on the status of the potential map pack release on the PC along with the Community Map Contest news. So expect that news in the near future as well. "



    Bit wierd announcement for a contest that already ended...

    I also commented this news with a :

    Keep in mind: Europeans never can enter sucha contest. If so.. it would be FIRST time.


    On April 16 IW responded with that they would make sure that also the EUROPEAN Mappers could enter this contest... So on 24th of April the US mappers got their submission rules (read legal contract) with May 9 ( today! ) as final day for map-submissions.

    But what about Europe? or other continents like Australia or Asia?



    Huh... ?? The rest got nothing!!

    Since the April 23 there has been no futher update about this Mapcontest. It is still unkown which other countries can or cant submit maps. And we talking about more then half of all maps made for this contest.

    So today is last day the US mappers can submit their map. Some European mappers will try to submit their map by using US contacts... But in the end the US LEGAL rules will/can disqualify them.


    I said this before: I dont think Infinity Ward can be blaimed for all this. It has been Activision that took over with all the LEGAL bullshit. And now IW doesnt know what to say or dont want to say anything about this contest anymore.

    Cancel this contest now. And start new contest in the way Infinity Ward Developers planned to do it;

    ALL Mappers submit their map and Infinity Ward picks their favorite.

    PeZBOT 004p2 : Pathfinding Fixed.


    - Bots now follow SOME of the quick commands, they are;

    On Me! - Bot's within 2000 inch radius, will follow player giving the command.
    Move In! - Bots will stop following player, and continue playing the gametype.
    Base Of Fire! - Bots will shoot at the place you are pointing to
    when you issue the command. They will keep shooting until
    player tells them to do something else, or they see an enemy.


    - Using UAV now also spawns a pack of dogs that attack the enemy for 2 minutes. For now
    (till i get the time to make a custom class just for dogs) the sniper class is
    replaced with dogs, so if you choose a sniper class other people will see
    you as a dog doing a handstand half way embedded in the ground. So i'd avoid that
    Use "svr_pezbots_dogpack_size" to change the number of dogs spawned.

    - Bots can now play headquarters.

    - Bots can now use the hardpoint perks; uav+dogs, airstrike, and helicopter.

    - Bots throw grenades. (120-1 chance they will throw instead of shooting).

    - Bot animation system improvements, less jiggling about. Correct death anims etc..

    - Better ground clamping, bot's shouldn't get stuck in the upper floors of buildings
    anywhere near as much as they used to.

    - Bots now push out of eachother while moving, so they dont get stuck inside eachother.
